Acute Angle Closure Glaucoma

Acute angle closure glaucoma occurs when the angle between the iris and cornea closes, blocking fluid flow out of the eye and increasing pressure within the eye. This condition can cause severe eye pain, headaches, nausea, vomiting, halos around lights, and blurry vision.

The most common cause of acute angle closure glaucoma is a build-up of pressure in the eye due to a blocked or narrowed drainage angle. It requires immediate attention to ease the pain and headaches, and prevent worsening of the symptoms which could lead to irreversible blindness.

Retinal Detachment

Retinal detachment occurs when the retina, a layer of cells at the back of the eye responsible for sending visual signals to the brain, becomes separated from the underlying tissue. It can be caused by trauma, or eye surgery.

Symptoms of the condition include floaters, flashes of light, and a shadow or veil over part of the field of vision. If not identified and treated early, retinal detachment can lead to permanent vision loss.

Foreign Body or Chemical Burn

Foreign bodies, such as dust, sand, or small particles, can get lodged in the eye and cause irritation, pain, and even injury. Similarly, chemical burns can occur when the eye comes into contact with acidic or other harmful substances, damaging the eye's surface and surrounding tissue.

Symptoms of a foreign body or chemical burn include redness, pain, burning, tearing, and a feeling of something stuck in the eye. In case of a chemical burn, there can also be visible damage to the eye, such as the cornea's cloudy or white appearance. Sometimes, you may experience blurred vision or even vision loss.

It can be important to seek emergency care for a foreign body or chemical burn in the eye, as delay in treatment can lead to serious complications such as infection, corneal abrasion, or even blindness.

Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a serious condition that occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow underneath the retina, leading to leaking and bleeding. Symptoms of wet AMD include blurred vision, difficulty reading, and the presence of floaters or flashes. Wet AMD can cause severe vision loss if not treated promptly, so early diagnosis and treatment are essential.
