Signs of Computer Vision

If you spend a lot of time in front of computer screens, you may have some of the symptoms of computer vision syndrome. Computer vision comes with several difficult symptoms, but there are ways to relieve the condition. If you are considering getting an eye exam and would like to find out if you have computer vision, contact Advanced Family Eye Care to schedule an appointment with one of our optometrists. We provide quality eye care for residents in and around St. Joseph, South Haven, Benton Harbor, and Stevensville, MI.

The Symptoms

Most of the symptoms of computer vision, although not all, have to do with the eyes being uncomfortable. When you spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen, you get a high dose of blue light from the screen. You also don't blink as often as you would naturally. This can create pain in your eyes that makes your day more difficult.

Your eyes may turn red, and you could suffer from dry eye when you have computer vision. The eyes have to work harder when they read text on screens, and this leads to eye strain and tired eyes. You may also suffer from double vision or blurry vision. Turning down the brightness of the screen and angling it so that there is no glare on the screen can help with this condition.

Other Pain

Because the eyes are worked so hard, it can cause you to have headaches. Other symptoms of computer vision include shoulder and back pain. If you start to get pain in these areas, try looking away from your computer every 20 minutes. Each time, spend 20 seconds looking at something about 20 feet away. This is called the 20/20/20 rule and it can help alleviate some of the symptoms.
